Atlas Fitness Center in Espanola First SBDC Success Client 20 Years Ago and Honored Once Again 20 Years Later!

(Espanola, New Mexico) Gino Brazil, owner of Atlas Fitness Center/Gino’s Gym located in Espanola was recently honored at the 12th Annual New Mexico Small Business Development Center Network(NMSBDC) Success Client Showcase and 20th Anniversary Gala.
Brazil, along with 20 outstanding NMSBDC Clients from across the state were honored at the NMSBDC 20th Anniversary Gala at the La Fonda on the Plaza in Santa Fe beginning with a press conference followed by a reception, dinner and awards. Lt. Governor Dianne Denish was present and recognized the NMSBDC Success Clients and the importance of the NMSBDC Network services and small business in our state. Several dignitaries, Senators and Representatives were present to congratulate the NMSBDC clients. Mayor Joseph Maestas and his wife Martha attended the event to support our local SBDC and business owner Gino Brazil.
Brazil was also honored at the State Capital and his business recognized on the Senate floor. His business was showcased at the rotunda. Speaker of the House Ben Lujan, Representative Nick Salazar, Senator Richard Martinez, and Cabinet Secretary Fred Mondragon along with several other State Representatives and Senators were on hand to congratulate Brazil and 20 other NMSBDC Success Clients from across the state.
Atlas Fitness Center in Espanola was Northern’s Small Business Development Centers first success client 20 years ago and is once again honored for its successful sustainability through the years. Owner Gino Brazil states, “Expect the unexpected. A business, like a relationship or like life, is filled with mystery and just when you think you're on a roll, things can change.” Gino Also feels what's made him sustainable and successful have been the people that have helped him along the way.
“Through the years the Espanola SBDC staff has been there to answer questions, provide advice and assist me with my business plan, I owe much of the success of my gym's expansion in 1998 to the assistance of the NNMC SBDC staff, at that time it was under the direction of Ralph Prather, Ida and Rita are always very professional and helpful as well,” says Gino. My long (20 years plus) association with the Española based SBDC has always been positive and helpful! Since Director Julianna Barbee moved back, her expertise in broadcast media and marketing has been valuable. Julianna is helping me in the areas of marketing, graphic design and photography. She has helped me with my overall image and has re-designed my promotional material she is assisting with my website by taking photos of all activity at the center and producing a web video. ”
Over the course of 25 years, thousands of Gino’s gym members both men and women, ages 13 to 85 have gained strength, toned up, burned body fat, improved self –esteem, made friends and had fun in a positive and friendly fitness environment. “I love the fact that the Atlas Fitness Center is about helping people improve and better their life, whether physical, emotional or social, says owner Gino Brazil.”
“I believe in what I call “Entrepreneur Enchantment,” if you find your passion in life you will be living not merely surviving,” says, Julianna Barbee, Director of SBDC. “Gino found his passion a long time ago and embraced the challenge of owning a business, he is successful because the fitness center is what he loves to do and when you find that passion you will focus, be pro-active, innovative, learn new ways, and work hard to make it last, Gino has found Entrepreneur Enchantment.”
Owner, Gino Brazil, AFAA certified personal trainer is also available to help members reach their fitness goals and design a strength training and cardiovascular program that is guaranteed to change your life. Atlas Fitness Center offers special rates for senior citizens, students, and businesses.
The Atlas Fitness Center/Gino's Gym offers the following services: 4,000 sq. feet of workout equipment space (free weights, selectorized machines and cardio equipment), 1,000 sq. ft. studio space. The center has men and women's shower/locker room facilities. Classes and workshops offered at Atlas Fitness Center include Step Aerobics, Zumba Dance Exercise, dance classes in country western and salsa, Introduction to Strength Training, and SilverSneakers, the nationally recognized fitness program for seniors 65 or older.
“The SilverSneaker exercise program is designed for the older population. This program has gone on to become one of the gym's most popular programs, ever! “says Gino. “Seeing folks in their 60's, 70's and yes 80's come to the gym and discover improvement in their overall health and well being - what can I say, Priceless!“
Atlas Fitness Center members continue to see the benefits of exercising. Regardless of age or shape exercising daily increases self esteem, increases energy, strengthens muscles, keeps bones strong, and improves skin, better sleep, positive mood, strong immune function and a better quality of life.
As a business owner the benefits of keeping a business fit also applies. “Services like the local Small Business Development Center provide help and guidance in creating a well thought out plan, says Gino, “ I'd also say that you can't be afraid to take risk, Part of growing and thriving in a business is taking chances, sometimes big chances that hurt. I look forward to working with the SBDC office on other projects, hopefully as long as dreams and visions – and of course, good health – continue to flourish in our lives.” Gino also tributes his success to his customers and volunteers.
