In October of 2003, Simone and Mike Culver made the decision to go into business for themselves in the industry in which they had been employed for several years, flooring. Their desire was to offer affordable, quality flooring products in the Four Corners area. In their five years in business the company has grown from $412,000 to over $1.1 million in annual sales and has purchased a warehouse and showroom in an area of Farmington that is in need of revitalization. Farmington Flooring Center has four employees and has generated work for as many as 30 subcontractors.
With no idea how to start a company, Mike approached the San Juan College Small Business Development Center in 2000. He was assisted with putting together a business plan to present to Citizens Bank for start up and operating capital of $100,000. This Veteran owned business now has the largest inventory in the Four Corners area.
“I strongly believe that without the Farmington SBDC and the assistance provided with our business plan, we could not have secured our loan with the SBA, nor could we have been successful. Even today we re-visit our plan and break even analysis to make decisions for our company. The business plan gives us a guide to gauge how we are doing”, says Mike Culver.
“We are a financially strong company with a good reputation for quality service and affordability. We owe a great deal of that to the Farmington SBDC”, says Mike.
